as told by her friend and fellow church member, Shirley
Sadly, Jean passed away on
November 22, 2009. Our deepest sympathies to Wendell and the
rest of the family.
Jean is
one of those ladies that leaves a lasting impression on your
heart. For months, I heard Jean request prayer for her niece
who was in her 30's battling cancer. The niece wasn't given any
little hope of survival. Week after week, Jean requested
prayer. Then the news came. Her niece had been completely
healed. There were no signs of cancer. As we rejoiced with
Jean, she began losing weight, had some abdominal pain and loss
of appetite. She underwent surgery for gallstones, but didn't
regain her appetite and just wasn't feeling well. More tests
revealed stage 4 small cell renal carcinoma with metastasis to
the lung. Just a few days after diagnosis, I saw this woman get
up in front of the church and perform sign language for a song
someone else was singing. Her face looked heavenly as her hands
sang the beautiful song, "I Can Only Imagine." I sat there and
watched her knowing that she had just found out she had cancer a
few days before. My heart will be forever blessed by this
beautiful moment.
Jean has
been married to Wendell for 47 years. Jean and Wendell taught
sign language and were leaders of the deaf ministry at a church
in Texas. They have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren.
Jean is
now undergoing chemo and continues to have a wonderful outlook
on life as she fights this disease.
