Will's Story
as told by his mom, Christian
Will was born with cystic fibrosis. His first five years of
life have not been easy ones. He has many complications
including intolerance to lactose, protein, frequent staph
infections, hypertonia (low muscle tone), sensory problems, an
immature gag reflex, speech delay, and oral sensory issues and
speech disorders due to delayed development. He has been in the
hospital twice for things unrelated to Cystic fibrosis. He eats
and drinks what he wants but needs to take medication to counter
the effects of multiple fats and proteins in most foods. He also
has to have chest therapy to keep his lungs clear and is on
nebulizer treatments as needed. He is doing better, but it has
not been an easy road.
He will remain in preschool for one more year because we want
him to mature a little bit and to learn to socialize better, but
he is definately smart enough to advance onto kindergarten.
Will has two older brothers and one younger one - all
experiencing an array of developmental delays, but none as
serious as Will’s.
Will loves the color blue. He also likes puppies, kittens
(has two of his own, Tiger and Tigger!) and teddy bears. His
favorite TV shows/ Characters are: sesame street, blues clues,
cyberchase, maisy, franklin, bob the builder, Dragon tales,
Disney cartoons and movies (stanley, mickey & friends, Nemo,
Stitch, 101 Dalmations, etc) , George Shrinks, Jimmy Neutron,
Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, The Wiggles, Clifford, and Berenstain
Bears.
